home is where the heart is

Every time this commercial airs on tv, I can’t help but smile and feel that maybe everything will be alright. Despite the doomsday predictions that I constantly see on the news, I want to believe that somehow Michigan will find a way to pull out of this slump. With the near collapse of the auto industry, the dilapidation of the education system and wave of unemployment, it’s hard to remain optimistic in this chaotic climate. But why give in to the fear? It’s not going to help the situation any. I want to believe that everything will be alright. It’s slightly self-serving. My future is at stake, but then again so is the future of everyone I know.

My only comfort lies in the success of Detroit sport teams. Every step closer to victory seems like a move towards change. Hopefully, it’ll bring enough positive energy to Detroit to turn things around.
